FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PROFESSIONALS

Same hard moment. Let’s find a different starting point.

You’ve reminded, redirected, and had the conversation. Again. I help special education professionals look closely at recurring classroom friction and build understandable systems that support accountability, dignity, and growing independence.

You know the moment.

Math comes out. Up goes the hood. A break starts, but coming back becomes another event. Or the plan changes depending on which adult is in the room. Those are places to look closer.

01

The same interaction keeps repeating.

Start by separating what happened from the meaning we attached to it.

02

The plan depends on the adult.

Look at what students and staff understand, what was taught, and what is feasible on a busy day.

03

You want students to own more.

Build toward responsibility while keeping needed support available.

Before the next “Are you kidding me?”

Five Questions Before You React gives you a place to pause, sort out what happened, check assumptions, and choose a more intentional response. Print it, keep it handy, and begin with one interaction.

Human first. System second.

My Six Classroom Behavior Systems address recurring moments such as arrival, breaks, accountability, reflection, work planning, and growing independence. We choose a starting point, build a version that fits the setting, teach it, and review what happens.

Take the classroom quiz

Supporting a classroom is one thing. Getting a team to use the same plan is another.

For school and program leaders, I offer selective consulting to build or strengthen behavior systems, help staff put them into practice, and clarify a focused student-support need. We agree on the work, responsibilities, and boundaries before beginning.

I’m Destiny. I’ve lived the classroom side of this.

I’m Destiny Hornstein, a Behavior and Systems Specialist and the founder of The Rebellious Lighthouse. I’ve worked in special education and behavior intervention since 2006. I bring lived experience, professional learning, and a willingness to question my own assumptions to the work.

I’ll shine a light into that dusty corner—the routine, assumption, or “we’ve always done it this way” that could use another look. You bring the knowledge of your students and setting. We use that knowledge to build something workable.

The experience behind the work

Professional experience since 2006. Two master’s degrees. A continuing willingness to learn.

One moment is enough to begin.

You don’t have to change everything at once. Start with five questions and a situation you’d like to understand differently.
